Self-portraits

Portraiture, a longstanding tradition in the arts, serves as a window into the human experience, capturing both the physical features and the underlying emotions of individuals. In grade 9, students delved into the rich history of portraiture, examining traditional and contemporary approaches and considering the significance of artists' representations.

To express their own identities, students embarked on a personal artistic journey. They selected an art style that resonated with them and applied it to create self-portraits. Through this exploration, they acquired valuable knowledge of the grid technique and facial proportions, essential tools for capturing likeness and conveying character.

In addition to traditional portraiture, students examined the profound impact of social media on contemporary self-representation. They explored the use of collages and stylized images to convey identity and explore the complexities of online personas.
