Art Games -Discover Your Art Style Through Play
In this eighth-grade unit, students took a role of board game designers, to explore different art styles. They created engaging games that not only entertained but also served as educational tools for learning about art.
The primary goal of this unit was to foster a love of learning through exploration, play, and the power of inquiry. Students began by researching and learning about various art styles, such as Impressionism, Pop-art, Graffiti art and Surrealism. They then brainstormed game ideas that incorporated elements of their chosen styles. Students designed and created their art-based games, considering game mechanics, rules, and objectives.
After testing their games with classmates and gathering feedback, students made necessary improvements. They presented their completed games to the class, explaining the art style influences and the learning objectives behind their creations.
Through this unit, students gained a deeper understanding of different art styles, developed a love of learning through exploration and play, enhanced their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, cultivated creativity and innovation, and strengthened their collaboration and teamwork skills.
