10 Elements of Art as 10 Pets

In alignment with Jean Dubuffet's assertion that art is a language and instrument of knowledge and communication, eighth-grade students embarked on a creative exploration of visual art. Through the medium of animal drawings, students delved into the fundamental elements of art and principles of design, using them to construct narratives that conveyed their understanding.

To enhance their understanding, students created a unique book format: the pop-up explosion book. This interactive medium provided a dynamic platform for showcasing their animal drawings and visually explaining the elements of art and principles of design.

By selecting ten essential elements of art, students meticulously crafted their drawings, incorporating a variety of techniques such as painting, watercolors, oil pastels, etc. These visual representations served as powerful tools for communicating their understanding of the building blocks of art.

Through this exploration, students not only developed technical skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for the role of art in communication and expression. By using animals as a creative lens, they discovered the power of visual language to convey complex ideas and narratives.
